Carterton

Carterton, in west Oxfordshire, was founded in 1900 by William Carter as a centre for market gardening. Its growth has largely mirrored the growth of RAF Brize Norton, which lies to the south of the town. A new estate of some 1,400 homes has resulted in a number of new facilities being developed, including a new Community Centre which was opened in November 2008.
An MTI Healthcheck was carried out in 2003 and some 50 projects have now been taken forward. Lottery funding was secured in 2004 and a number of heritage projects, including the production of a colourful wall-hanging depicting Carterton's interesting heritage, and a writing project led by a professional writer, which produced the book Carterton Pride - Tin Shacks to Beacon Town, were carried out with the support of local residents.
